Before You Go
This itinerary assumes you're staying in or near Glendale, with a car available, and it works whether Glendale is your whole trip or one stop inside a longer Phoenix-area visit. Check event calendars for State Farm Stadium, Desert Diamond Arena, and Camelback Ranch-Glendale before you lock in dates, since a game or concert on your travel dates should reorder the plan below.
This itinerary has you outdoors for a good part of each day, and extreme heat is Glendale's biggest weather risk, especially outside the late-fall-through-spring window. Pack water and sun protection, and build in shade or air-conditioned breaks during the hottest part of the afternoon. Know the difference between heat exhaustion (heavy sweating, weakness, cool clammy skin, dizziness, or nausea — cool off and rehydrate) and heat stroke, a medical emergency marked by confusion, slurred speech, a body temperature above 103°F, or loss of consciousness — if you see those signs, call 911 immediately and do not give the person fluids. Day 1: The Sports & Entertainment District
Spend day one around State Farm Stadium, Desert Diamond Arena, and Westgate Entertainment District. If there's a Cardinals game, concert, or other event scheduled, build the whole day around it and treat Westgate as your pre- or post-event meal stop. Day 2: Historic Downtown Glendale and Catlin Court
Day two moves at a slower pace. Spend the morning in Catlin Court, the preserved 1910s bungalow district known for antique shops and small independent businesses, then work through Historic Downtown Glendale more broadly. Leave room in the afternoon for Cerreta Candy Company, where factory tours give visitors a look at how the candy is actually made — a good stop if you're traveling with kids. Day 3: Camelback Ranch or a Phoenix Day Trip
How day three goes depends on the season. If you're visiting in February or March, Camelback Ranch-Glendale and Cactus League spring training baseball are worth the morning — check current team schedules before you go, since the Dodgers and White Sox don't play every day. Outside spring training season, use day three as a flexible day trip into Phoenix or further out to Scottsdale or Tempe, all a short drive from Glendale.
Where to Base Yourself
Most visitors choose between staying near the Sports & Entertainment District for easy access to the stadium and Westgate, or staying closer to downtown Glendale or Phoenix for a quieter base with a slightly longer drive to the stadium. Adjusting the Plan
If you only have two days, combine the Sports & Entertainment District and downtown Glendale into one packed day and use the second day for whichever of Camelback Ranch or a Phoenix day trip fits your dates. If you have more than three days, Glendale works well as a base for exploring farther into the Phoenix metro, or even for a longer day trip north toward Sedona or Flagstaff if you don't mind a longer drive.
