The Lowdown Verdict
The best casual lunch stop in the Cathedral Rock / Bell Rock corridor. The creekside patio on Oak Creek is Sedona's most relaxed outdoor dining setting — no pretension, no dress code, no reservation required. Call ahead for creekside availability; only ~12 tables sit directly on the water. Wood-fired pizza is the order.

The Patio — Oak Creek and Cathedral Rock
The Hideaway sits on AZ-179 adjacent to Tlaquepaque Arts Village, at the point where the road crosses Oak Creek on the Oak Creek Bridge. The restaurant's lower creekside patio is built directly over the creek bank — the sound of the water is constant, the cottonwood trees provide shade, and on clear days Cathedral Rock is visible in the background across the creek. It's one of the most genuinely pleasant outdoor dining settings in Sedona precisely because it lacks the theatrical drama of cliff-edge view restaurants: it feels like eating in a garden.
The critical constraint: only approximately 12 tables sit directly on the creekside. The upper covered patio has more capacity and still pleasant but the creek is less immediate. The interior is air-conditioned and functional — useful in summer heat — but most visitors come for the outside setting. If you arrive and find creekside full, ask to be waitlisted specifically for creekside rather than accepting an interior table.
Parking: The Hideaway shares the Tlaquepaque parking lot off AZ-179. It's a large lot and usually has availability, though it fills on busy weekend afternoons when Tlaquepaque shopping is at peak. Arriving before 11:30 AM secures easy parking and your choice of table.
Creekside table strategy: Call 928-282-4204 the morning you plan to visit and ask about current wait for creekside seating. They can't hold a table, but they can give you a realistic read on timing. Arrive at 11 AM (opening) on busy weekends to maximize your chances.
Best Mid-Hike Lunch for the Cathedral / Bell Rock Cluster
The Hideaway's location on AZ-179 puts it within a 5–10 minute drive of Sedona's southern trailhead cluster. It is the natural food stop if you're doing the Cathedral Rock Trail, the Bell Rock Trail, or any of the Village of Oak Creek area hikes. You finish the hike, drive north on AZ-179, and land at the Hideaway before the post-hike hunger gets worse.
The restaurant is genuinely hiker-friendly: hiking clothes are completely normal here, the portions are filling, the prices are moderate by Sedona standards, and the creekside patio is a therapeutic post-hike recovery environment. No one is going to seat you away from the best tables because your boots are dusty. This is not Mariposa.
Pairing Guide: Hike to Lunch Timing
Cathedral Rock Trail (2.2 miles RT, 742 ft gain)
Start at 7–8 AM to beat the heat and the crowds, finish by 10–10:30 AM. Drive north on AZ-179 (8 min). Arrive at Hideaway by 11 AM opening. Creekside tables available at this timing. Order pizza and something cold.
Bell Rock Trail (3.6 miles, moderate)
Longer hike puts you finishing around noon on a typical morning start. Arrive at Hideaway 12:15–12:30 PM — creekside fills around this time on weekends so you may wait 15 minutes for a creek table. Still the right call over driving further.
The Food — What to Order
The Hideaway is a casual Italian restaurant with a menu built around wood-fired pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, and salads. The kitchen is not doing ambitious contemporary Italian — it is executing the fundamentals reliably in a high-traffic environment. For that context, the quality-to-price ratio is genuinely good.
The wood-fired pizzas are the standout: the margherita uses quality tomato sauce and good mozzarella, and the sausage-fennel pizza has the flavor combination right. The mushroom ravioli is the best pasta dish. For sandwiches at lunch, the Italian sub with house-cured meats is the strongest option. The house salad with sun-dried tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette is a good recovery meal after a hot hike — light and acidic.
Must Order
Margherita pizza (wood-fired)
Sausage-fennel pizza
Mushroom ravioli
Also Good
Italian sub sandwich
House salad with balsamic
Tiramisu (when available)
Drinks
Italian Peroni on draft
House Chianti carafe
Fresh-squeezed lemonade
What to skip
The dinner entree pastas (heavier cream and meat preparations) are adequate but not the reason to come. The dessert menu is hit-or-miss by availability. Don't come to The Hideaway for an ambitious Italian dinner — come for casual pizza and pasta in a great setting at accessible prices.
